Wal-mart is a leading competitor with the various other super markets there are today. They are currently offering some of the lowest prices on big name labels along with employing millions of Americans. They have also been known to have lower wages for the workers as well. However, the hope is wages to change and go up in the future of Wal-mart. For the past decade, CEO's have been putting their faces out in public through advertisement. In the past it only happened once in a while due to things like problems in the company. They usually feared negativity from the public, but now it is used to show that even the person at the top is whiling to identify the problems and make things right with the people. Wal-mart over the summer nationally advertised that 2.7 billion dollars was going to be put towards better training for the employees along with an increase in wage. Wal-mart is trying to prove to Americans that there is opportunity there along with a value of being a customer or employee.
It's good to see Walmart hiring millions of employees. But the amount they pay their employees is where it gets rough. Yes it can be titled as a teenage job of someone who is still in high school or maybe in college trying to make extra money for the weekends. But many job positions through Walmart require trained people such as security guards or store managers. Those are the people that may deserve more money, but Walmart is failing to do that. The competition for Walmart is increasing though. With competitors such as Meijer or Kroger it will be interesting to see where each company stands in the next couple of years. But competing with Walmart is no easy task. Their size alone of their stores are what can beat each and every competitor out.
ReplyDeleteWalmart is a well known company and I enjoy going there on occasion. They always have the craziest deals. I once went there with my father after a hockey game to buy some crackers and came out with a 80" TV that was on sale for 50% off. Although as stated in the above comment, the low wages is another reason why I hate going to Walmart. To some people it is a means of living, and their paycheck pays their rent. Walmart employees cost tax payers 6.2 billion in public assistance alone to just their company from all their employees on food stamps, medicaid, and subsidized housing. They pay their employees less than fast food workers such as McDonalds, literally riding the minimum wage. Although the wage may be super low, people and employees need to speak up more about it and push for a reasonable wage themselves.
